At the Rooppur NPP construction site in the People's Republic of Bangladesh (the general designer and general contractor being the Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division), installation of bridge cranes was completed in the turbine compartment at Unit 2.

The works were carried out by specialists of VdMU LLC branch (a part of the Rosatom Engineering Division). Two cranes, having lifting capacity of 50 and 180 tons, weigh with additional equipment about 130 and 210 tons correspondingly. The heaviest and largest components thereof were installed in the design position using Liebherr 11350 crane with lifting capacity of 1350 tons.

“Installation of bridge cranes is a complex technological process involving more than a hundred operations. Its successful completion allows proceeding to the next constructions stage, which is installation of the turbine compartment equipment, in particular, the main and auxiliary equipment of the turbine set”, said Alexey Deriy, ASE JSC Vice President - Director for Rooppur NPP construction project.

During the construction of Rooppur NPP, the cranes will be used for construction and installation works, and for NPP reconstruction, repair and upgrade during the operation.

Rooppur NPP equipped with two VVER-1200 reactors of the total 2400 MW capacity is being constructed under the Russian design 160 km from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, in accordance with General Contract dated December 25, 2015. The Russian design with VVER-1200 reactors was selected for the first NPP in Bangladesh, which was successfully implemented at two units of Novovoronezh NPP. This is an evolutionary Generation III+ design which fully complies with all the international safety requirements.
